LG may be building the Pixel XL, codenamed ‘taimen’

Just recently we found that Google had shelved “muskie”—the supposed Pixel XL successor. Muskie is likely to be replaced by “taimen,” an even larger device. Now, reports are saying LG might be the manufacturer of that larger device.

According to 9to5Google, information regarding the manufacturer of taimen comes from the Android Issue Tracker.  A bug report titled “USB PD Compliance Failure” lists the following after a series of comments between an LG and Google employee:

Android > Partner > External > LGE > Taimen > power

Here’s the comment in full context:

This could mean that this year’s Pixel and Pixel XL may be different in design, similar to the 2015 Nexus phones.

And of course, you know LG is known for their bootlooping devices. Whether this might be bad news for this year’s Pixel XL, I wouldn’t know for sure, but since it is after all “Made by Google,” I can only hope Google will absolutely make sure nothing like this will happen.
