The OnePlus 5 is confirmed

The OnePlus 5 is coming, and it’s coming soon. This time, there are a lot of expectations from OnePlus, but will they be able to live up to them?

The OnePlus 5 will officially launch on June 20th. There is no VR event this time and now we have the typical live-streamed event which you can watch at onepl.us/launch. OnePlus has confirmed several things before the launch event and the hype is real.

Design

OnePlus recently shared an image of the device and it looks surprisingly familiar to the iPhone 7 Plus. I might not be able to get over the feeling of people thinking that I’m using an iPhone clone. On the other hand, the phone does look much better than the previous ones.

Internals

What we know for sure is that it will have the Snapdragon 835 and sport a dual-camera setup. They partnered with DxOMark (a camera benchmarking company) to improve the cameras on the OnePlus 5 and even showed off the improvements in a picture asking us to figure out which picture was from the OnePlus 5.

Audio recording capabilities have improved as well as shown in the sample below.

That’s all we know officially from the company.

One thing that I’m slightly concerned about is the battery life. Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus, said that the phone is going to be their thinnest flagship ever, beating the iPhone 7 Plus. What concerns me is that they might sacrifice the battery capacity in order to accomplish this. If this happens, it will be a big let-down for most of their fans anticipating the arrival of it.

The OnePlus 5 will no doubt be a beast, but now all eyes are on its pricing. The prices have been increasingly ever so slightly after each iteration of their flagships and it will be no surprise that they do the same this time.
