The Moto X4 might be the comeback Motorola’s been waiting for

Motorola, under Lenovo’s leadership, has been trying to switch things up in their mobile lineup. Most recently, they’ve released another iteration in their Moto G line, the Moto G5. And with the Moto E comeback to the US and their new entry-line Moto C, it’s clear they’re up for something. But they still have a few tricks up their sleeve. One of them being a Moto X comeback.

They still have some unreleased 2017 phones, including yet another Moto G (the Moto G5s) and, of course, the Moto Z2. But the Moto X4 stands out for many different reasons. The main one, of course, is the revival of the Moto X line as a whole. The last Moto X devices, the Style (Pure) and the Play, were released back in 2015. But there are many other reasons why it’ll probably be one of the best phones of 2017.

A midranger with really solid specs

The Moto X line, while it was the previous flagship line from Motorola, was never really focused on specs. However, that doesn’t mean that the Moto X4 isn’t packing some powerful ones. The phone packs a Snapdragon 660 processor coupled with 4 GB of RAM and an FHD (1920×1080) screen. It’s also packing a dual-lens camera, with a technology Moto’s calling “SmartCam”. All in all, that should be plenty for the average user.

This phone also looks to be a battery beast. With a 3800 mAh battery and the rumored autonomy of the 660, we could have a potential Moto Z Play successor in battery life.

Built like a tank

If the leaked renders are true, then Moto’s preparing a glass-clad Moto X. The phone features what they’re calling a “3D Glass” build. While we’re not sure what they mean by 3D Glass, we can be sure that it will feature a glass build with a metal frame. This is a departure from most recent Moto devices, which feature metal and plastic builds. It will also pack an IP68 rating, which means that water resistance is also in tow.

Backed by Project Fi and an affordable price tag

If leaks are correct, the Moto X4 will be the first non-Google device to work on Project Fi. This means lots of things. Not only is the US market receiving the X4, but it will also be probably sold through the Google Store. And while the price tag hasn’t actually been leaked, there are prices floating around between $320 and $400. This means that the Moto X4 will be extremely affordable for what it’s packing.
