Google is experimenting with a touchscreen-optimized version of the launcher in Chrome OS

Over the past couple months, Google has been refining Chrome OS and adding some welcome features to it. The latest findings are that Google is working on an entirely revamped launcher for Chrome OS—one built for touch.

The video and find come courtesy of Chromium expert, François Beaufort. The feature is currently only live in the Canary channel and can be enabled using the chrome://flags/#enable-fullscreen-app-list flag, restarting Chrome, and pressing the Search key.

The launcher has got a sort of Pixel Launcher vibe going on with the swipe up UI. Hopefully, more Material Design animations can be implemented to get it ironed out, though. I like the fact that Google’s attempting to make Chrome OS more touch-friendly rather than making Android tablets point-and-click.

I like the fact that Google’s attempting to make Chromebooks more touch-friendly rather than making Android tablets use point-and-click. Anyhow, the feature will probably roll out to Stable in 3-4 months (Canary -> Dev -> Beta -> Stable).
