Xiaomi’s Mi MIX 2 is the first Xiaomi phone to work in the US

The much-awaited successor to the original Mi MIX, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, was unveiled in Beijing today. Once the only bezel-less phone in the market, the Mi MIX 2 must now compete with a slew of others. Will its sleek ceramic body and dazzling screen jump out ahead, again?

Xiaomi downsized the screen in the Mi MIX 2, from 6.44 inches to 5.99 inches. It has the typical 18:9 aspect ratio of most bezel-less phones, and a full-HD display. Full HD might seem so 2015, especially on a phone with a 6-inch screen, but reviewers on site have noted that the display really pops out in vibrant colors.

The camera is still awkwardly placed at the bottom bezel, as there is no top bezel at all, but it’s been coated with a glass that matches the color of the bezel, so it’s almost unnoticeable.

On the inside, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 powers the device, coupled with a whopping 6 GB of RAM. The battery is 3,400 mAH: 100 mAH less than the Samsung Galaxy S8+, and it has Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

The Mi MIX 2 just might be able to start competing with Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and the Essential Phone, since it completely supports US 4G LTE bands. While US customers won’t be able to buy it directly from Xiaomi’s website, it’ll be available from online retailers like Gearbest or Amazon.
