Xiaomi’s new Mi Notebook Pro is a MacBook Pro competitor

Last year Xiaomi entered a new territory with the Mi Notebook Air, with a clear idea in mind: to replicate the success of the MacBook Air. Continuing this trend, Xiaomi has revealed the Mi Notebook Pro, a direct competitor to the MacBook Pro for half the price.

Heavily inspired by Apple’s aesthetic, this model includes a 15.6-inch display with narrow bezels and Gorilla Glass 3. It features Harman Infinity speakers, a full-size backlit keyboard that is 19% larger than the MacBook Pro keyboard, and the multitouch trackpad hides a fingerprint reader; Windows Hello is also supported. Packed on a magnesium alloy body, it only weighs 4.2 pounds.

Xiaomi compensates the relatively low 1080p resolution by including a wide range of ports: full-size HDMI, two USB 3.0, a 3-in-1 SD slot, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and two USB Type-C ports, one doubling as the charger.

Pricing and Availability

All three models come with a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX150 GPU and Intel’s new 8th generation processors, integrated with a symmetrical cooling system and 256GB SSD. The pricing for each are as follows:

  • i7 + 16GB – 6,999 yuan (about $1,070)
  • i7 + 8GB –  6,399 yuan (about $980)
  • i5 + 8GB –  5,599 yuan (about $860)

Both appealing to Apple’s enthusiasts through the aesthetics and minimalistic design, the company’s latest notebook has an arguably narrower market with its “pro” tag. And as it’s customary from the Chinese manufacturer,  the notebook will be available only in China when it goes on sale September 15th.
