Threaten Google Assistant to use Google Keep for your shopping list

Less than a year ago, Google removed the functionality within the Google Assistant to have your shopping lists stored in Google Keep in favor of tying it to Google Express in an online shopping list. It was very much of a but why? move from Google. Today, however, a Redditor by the name of Darklyte has posted a surprising, but amusing, workaround to this.

Simply add “or else” to the end of your command and the Google Assistant will use Keep for your shopping list. For example, “add milk to my shopping list or else.” It’ll even create a new one if for some reason you don’t have one or you deleted it.

Voilà. You’ve got your shopping list in Keep by threatening your Assistant. The only disappointing thing to this is that the workaround doesn’t appear to work with Google Home. Oh, the frustrations of multiple versions of Google Assistant.
