Android Pay and Google Wallet officially get rebranded as Google Pay

It would be hard to deny that we have anticipated such a move a long time ago, especially when Google hinted at it earlier last month. Today, Google has pulled the trigger and merged both its Android Pay and Google Wallet services into a single unified payment service under the name of Google Pay.

Clearly, a UI revamp was in order. Opening the app, you are greeted with a simply designed Home tab showing all recent payment activities, boasting Google’s signature card-based design. Switching to the Cards tab will display your individual cards’ information updated in real time, predictably.

However, it goes beyond just a facelift. Google intends on adding Google Pay support to all its Google products like Google Chrome and Assistant. Google Wallet has been given a fresh brush of paint as well, with Google temporarily renaming it to “Google Pay Send” (that name tho) and redesigning it a bit to fit in the Google Pay trend. Google does plan on including this functionality into the main Google Pay app for US and UK users.

Google also sent out emails to Android Pay and Google Wallet users regarding the change.

Naturally, the website for the new Google Pay site is live, along with four YouTube tutorial videos. The update is rolling out in stages, as usual, so you might need to hold on for a while till it hits your region.
