Android Messages for web is going live

There is no denying the fact that the situation of messaging on Android was in dire need of some work, especially when compared to its iOS counterpart. But that might change now with the launch of a web client for Android Messages, or at least it’s a step in the right direction.

You can now send and receive text messages from your PC or laptop. Not only that, you can also send stickers, emojis, and images. Other features include a GIF search engine, previewing links, the ability to copy one-time verification codes with one tap, and Smart Reply, which is essentially a couple of suggested quick replies that appear based on the ongoing conversation. The latter will only be available in English for now, however, more languages will be supported soon.

Google says the changes are rolling out starting today, but you know what that means: server-side rollouts. Once you have the update, all you need to do is tap on the 3-dot menu button and select “Messages for web.” On your PC, go to messages.android.com via a supported browser such as Chrome or Firefox and scan the displayed QR code.
