Google Keep app being renamed to ‘Keep Notes’

Google has changed the name of its note-taking app “Keep” to “Keep Notes.” There are no aesthetic or design changes yet, but the name of the app has now changed. The web version still has Google Keep in its name though.

“Keep Notes”

Perhaps this is a distinction that might help users identify the note-taking app. This change is from the version 5.0.371.03.40, which you can grab from APKMirror here.

Here’s what a Google Keep rep said in response to these changes:

“Hey everyone, Google Keep PM here…

This isn’t a name change for Keep, instead it’s intended to help clarify (as some have pointed out) that Keep is about notes. This change is going to impact mobile launchers and widget naming for this very reason.

If you look through Keep, the primary view is called “Notes”, and as others pointed out in some languages it is Google Keep Notes (Czech) and Google Notizen (Germany).

Also, when we launched the new G Suite Side Panel in Gmail/Docs/Sheets/Slides/Calendar, the Keep app is titled Keep Notes.

Anyway, nothing to be alarmed about, we just wanted to help call out the relationship between Keep and Notes in mobile devices.”
