What to expect from Nokia’s launch event tomorrow in India

Nokia has a product launch scheduled for tomorrow in New Delhi, and the big reveal is expected to be the Nokia 7.1 Plus. Nokia Mobile India released a teaser on their Twitter page with the hashtag “MegaLife” which may indicate a bigger screen and a bigger battery than its predecessor, the 6.1 Plus.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus was released a month ago with a Snapdragon 636 SoC, a 5.8-inch FHD+ display, and a 3060 mAh battery. The Nokia 7.1 Plus is expected to come with a much better Snapdragon 710 SoC, a bigger 6.2-inch FHD+ display, 4 or 6GB of RAM, 64 or 128GB of storage, and a 3400 mAh battery.

HMD Global might surprise us with Android P on the Nokia 7.1 Plus out of the box, but let’s not get our hopes too high. Still, Android One is the best software experience you can get on an Android device aside from the Pixel phones (subjectively speaking, of course).

I’ve been using the 6.1 Plus for a couple of weeks now and it’s a pretty solid phone. The only complaint I have is about its average camera and small battery. The Nokia 7.1 Plus might come with a Carl Zeiss lens, so an upgrade in camera quality should be on its way. It’s going to be a pretty similar design to that of its predecessor with a glass sandwiched phone and a small notch.

It’s expected to cost less than 25,000 INR (about $300 USD).

Other news

There‘s also a rumor that another budget smartphone, the Nokia 3.1 Plus might be released instead of the 7.1 Plus but hopefully, we’re getting the latter one. We expect the True and Pro wireless earphones to be launched in India soon as they were released alongside 7.1 (non-Plus) at the London event a couple of days ago for the European and US markets.
