Google Camera v6.2 brings faster launch times and mode switching

The Pixel phones are known for their best-in-class cameras, but the camera app’s performance has degraded somewhat in the past couple of months. However, with the v6.2 update, users are reporting “noticeably quicker launch” times.

I, personally, feel that the launch time on my Pixel 2 XL is about the same as before, which isn’t terrible to say, but I do wish it could be a bit quicker. Switching between camera modes is also slightly tweaked with this update. There’s no longer a black splash screen and instead, the viewfinder switches much quicker. Although, it is a bit janky (though, this could be because I’m running the Q Beta on my phone).

Other changes include a lightning symbol for the front-facing camera’s screen flash and a dark mode for the camera app’s settings.

The update is rolling out in the Play Store right now as v6.2.024.239729896, but APKMirror has it as well if you don’t want to wait.
