Previously, it was announced that Google would only be canceling the in-person I/O event in May. Now, however, the Google Developers account has released a statement on Twitter that the company “will not be holding an I/O event in any capacity this year.”
Right now, the most important thing all of us can do is focus our attention on helping people with the new challenges we all face. We’ll continue to do everything we can to help our communities stay safe, informed, and connected. (2/3)

The decision to not have a virtual event either was made “out of concern for the health and safety of developers, employees, and local communities” in the area. Furthermore, according to the Google I/O FAQ website, I/O also will not be postponed until the fall either.
Any announcements (like the Pixel 4a or new Pixel Buds) are said to be shared through Google’s developer blogs and community forums. Anyone who won a ticket through the drawing will be automatically extended an invitation for I/O 2021 next year.
