Why custom ROM users are quick to dump OxygenOS

Back in November of last year, we discussed how Android 9 Pie on the OnePlus 6 differed from that on the Pixel 2 XL, which can be regarded as nearly stock AOSP. While there might be little to no difference at first glance, a closer look reveals that such a claim couldn’t be more wrong. Not only does OxygenOS offer more features that enrich the functionality of the phone, but it does also have some noticeable design alterations. This lightly-skinned version of Android Pie might appeal to the overwhelming majority of users. However, quite a lot of the tech-enthusiasts feel like being left in the dark following this mindset transition, myself considered. So what is it that makes the die-hard custom ROM enthusiasts dump OxygenOS in a heartbeat and flash a custom ROM on their phones? Well, without further ado, let’s dive in and find out.

Stock Android 9 Pie vs. OxygenOS Pie comparison: Which is better?

Android Pie hasn’t even made a dent in Android’s distribution numbers despite Google, Essential, and OnePlus being the first manufacturers to offer it. Google and Essential rolled out very close-to-stock versions of Android Pie, but OnePlus changed a bit of the UI and added some of their own additional features. Did OnePlus make this release of Pie better than Google? Or did they eat our Pie just as they had eaten our Oreo? Let’s find out.

Paranoid Android and OnePlus 3 review

On May 31st, Paranoid Android for the OnePlus 3 was released after a long line of tweets and test builds. Bemused by the hype, I decided to take a further look. I’ve never really used AOSPA, but the perplexing nature of an entirely different Android version attracted me. I was impressed, but to give you an idea of the nature of this article and what my opinions will be, I am no longer using it.
