We’re a little over two months till the new year, which means that Redmi Note 5 leaks are in full swing. A lot of websites are talking about how the Redmi Note 5 will be featuring the SnapDragon 660 chipset. However, we disagree. Here’s our take on what the device might have in store for us.
Snapdragon 636 vs Snapdragon 660
The Snapdragon 660 is what a lot of news outlets are reporting. However, both the SD660 as well as SD636 are only hexacore CPUs. This leads me to think that all the leaks might not be on point here.
The Redmi Note 4 features the SD625, which has sort of become a Xiaomi favorite because it has a great balance between optimum performance and battery usage. The SD660 is featured on the higher-end Mi Note 3, which means that it is definitely an expensive CPU. Having considered that, the SD636 is definitely similar to the SD625 in regards to performance.
One big hint we get is this: the screen is rumored to be 2160 x 1080, which is not supported by SD625 (1920 x 1080 is maximum for the SD625) or SD630. The next cheapest platform that supports it is the SD636, and going by cost, it seems a no-brainer to use this chipset.
Display
The Redmi MET7 and Redmi MEE7 both have 5.99-inch TFT displays with a 2160 x 1080 resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. This is different from the 5.7” HD+ it was speculated to have.
You might be wondering about the size increase, but since this is a minimal bezel design, the form factor of this will be similar to 5.5-inch Redmi Note Series in the market right now.
Camera: Omnivision? Samsung? Omida?
We are still not sure about this one. TENAA says that you should be getting a 12 MP rear camera and a 5 MP sensor for the front camera. There were rumors of a dual camera setup, but now nobody is exactly sure about what to expect.
The battery capacity is going to be at around 4,000 mAh, and there is Android 7.1.2 Nougat with MIUI9 on top of it.
