Despite its recent price hike to $50/month, YouTube TV is still one of the best streaming TV services out there. Yesterday, YouTube announced that they will be adding two more channels to the existing lineup later this year: PBS and PBS Kids.

Way back in December of 2017, Google pulled YouTube off of the Fire TV citing a “lack of reciprocity” by Amazon. Amazon would not carry Chromecast and Google Home products on their store, Prime Video did not support Chromecast, and new Nest devices were being pulled. Consumers were the ones to suffer the most because of these companies’ disagreements. However, Amazon essentially announced yesterday that they and Google are officially friends now. Hooray!
YouTube TV is YouTube’s own service that offers the streaming of live TV channels including local sports and news. When it first launched, it cost $34.99 a month which then increased to $39.99 in February 2018 (existing subscribers were grandfathered, however). Starting today, YouTube TV’s monthly pricing is increasing to $49.99 for all subscribers and eight new channels are being added.

YouTube suffered a nearly two-hour long outage last Tuesday causing YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV to all go down.
Live TV streaming services such as Sling and YouTube TV are increasingly becoming popular in the US due to cable’s high prices. However, according to a new report published by The Information, these companies are actually struggling to make money from their business model.

The Google-owned company, YouTube, launched YouTube TV in early April of this year, and since then, the platform has seen some welcome growth. However, one of the biggest drawbacks of the service since launch day has been a) its lack of some big channels such as CNN and TNT and b) it’s limited in the devices you can watch on. But today, and in the sometime future, that’s going to change—at least in the devices part.
