Recently, Privacy International analyzed 34 apps on Android, each with downloads from 10 to 500 million, and found that at least 61 percent of those apps automatically transfer data to Facebook the moment a user opens the app. This happens whether people have a Facebook account or not, or whether they are logged into Facebook or not.

Ever since the Cambridge Analytica scandal hit the news, a lot of people have been deleting their Facebook or at least making an effort to use it less. But for a lot of people, this has been a complete awakening to the whole internet privacy controversy and consequently, there’s been a growing trend to boycott all internet services known to be collecting user data. The one other company talked about most in this regard is Google. There have been complete guides going around the internet on how to stop using Google services completely and instead use alternatives for each of its services. That means no Google search, no Google Maps, Photos, Drive, or YouTube, and there are people actually trying this. Data is a resource whose value cannot be ascertained. Now that all companies are vying for your data, your privacy is inherently at risk. Not only are advertisements catered to your tastes, but data can be misused by someone with vested interests as well. In a report, Intelligence Bureau has curated a list of apps that are sending your data to China. Subsequently, they have asked members of the Indian army to remove those apps from their personal devices, in lieu of a threat of being spied upon.
