Google releases March patch for Pixels with working “Check for update” button, details improvements

It’s March already, and another round of Google’s monthly security updates for its devices has arrived—this time with a functioning “check for update” button.

The update comes in at around 52 MB for the Pixel 2 XL.

The new build numbers for devices on the March update are as follows:

  • Pixel 2 XL: OPM1.171019.021
  • Pixel 2: OPM1.171019.021
  • Pixel XL: OPM1.171019.021
  • Pixel: OPM1.171019.021
  • Nexus 6P: OPM3.171019.016, OPM5.171019.017 (Softbank)
  • Nexus 5X: OPM3.171019.016, OPM5.171019.017 (Telstra and Softbank)

All Pixels have the same build this month while missing from the March list is the Pixel C, which could have just received its final update last month, or of course, it could arrive later from Google.

Also detailed were some “functional updates” for Pixel devices:

  • Improved screen wake performance with fingerprint unlock (Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL)
  • Improved audio performance when recording video (Pixel 2 XL)
  • Improved crash reporting (Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL)

Moreover, it appears that if you’re on the beta for Google Play Services, the “check for update” button might just work for you. I can confirm: I’m on version 12.2.17, and instantly received the OTA. If you don’t have v12 and don’t want to wait for the roll out, you can grab it from APKMirror here.
