Google adds “Scheduled Routines” to Google Home

Back in May, Google added “routines” to Google Home. The feature, “Routines” allowed users to set a chain of commands to your Google Home by saying only one command. The newest addition to “Routines” is “Scheduled Routines,” adding a new level of power and efficiency to the Google Home experience.

One of my favorite use cases of Routines on Google Home is being able to say, “Hey Google, Good Morning!” Google responds with a warm “Good Morning, Michael!,” but proceeds to help me get a start on my day with the following: turning on my bedroom lights, telling me the weather in Washington DC, traffic for my morning commute, and playing the latest news in sports, tech, and politics.

“Scheduled Routines” allows me to not have to say, “Hey Google, Good Morning!” Now, I can set my morning schedule to activate without saying a word. It’s utopia. Well, maybe not completely, but it allows me to stay on schedule with my day. One thing I don’t like is that I can’t reuse common phrases like “Good Morning” or “Good Night.” It doesn’t completely ruin the experience, but it forces me to be more creative with my commands.
