Android Go finally gets turn-by-turn navigation

One of the fairly recent revelations of Google to improve the experience on low-end hardware is the introduction of Android Go: a trimmed down, no-frills version of Android specifically tailored to phones with limited hardware capabilities. Basically, nearly all of Google’s preinstalled apps such as YouTube and Maps are replaced with lighter editions that are much less resource intensive. On the other hand, these apps bear fewer functionalities and indeed less joyful animations in order to be lighter on the system.

One of the major inconveniences of Android Go was the fact that the bundled Maps Go app did not support any sort of navigation. Once you attempt to get turn-by-turn directions, you pretty much hit a brick wall. The only way out was to install the regular, fully-fledged Google Maps app which won’t run properly on low-tier devices. While it may have taken a lot more time than expected, Google has finally given it a thought and released “Navigation for Google Maps Go” to address this issue. As the name implies, it’s an app specifically targeted towards the Android Go powered devices that brings the much-needed turn-by-turn navigation feature. Oddly enough, Google has decided to spin it off in a standalone app instead of bundling it with, say, the Maps Go app.

You can download the Navigation for Google Maps Go app via the Google Play Store by clicking on the link below. Coming at just 8.5MB, it shouldn’t take you long to install.
