Google Home users are reporting issues when attempting to play uploaded music with Play Music

Google Play Music reportedly suffers from a number of playback errors, especially when used in conjunction with a Google Home. The issue specifically involves a Play Music user attempting to listen to an uploaded album via the smart speaker. If asked to play a specific uploaded song, the Google Assistant immediately complies, playing the requested track. However, if the user wants to hear an entire album from their uploaded library, the Assistant will only play a random song from the album. This might not be a problem if the random song changed every time, but it appears the “random” song is the same every time. The issue is further exasperated when the listener asks to skip to the next track. The Assistant will respond that the user has reached the end of the album, even if only one track has been played thus far.

As far as we are aware, the issue is true for all albums across all uploaded Play Music content for all Google Home units. Third-party music services like Spotify are easily able to navigate through paid and owned music.

As demonstrated today by Gary Quiring on YouTube, Google Play Music appears to allow listeners to browse any other songs in a single album just fine, but asking the album to play alone doesn’t function as intended. The issue was also brought up on Google’s own Product Forums but no resolution has come.
