Yes, you read that correctly: Oreo—not Pie.
Samsung has now revealed its plan for updating its mid-range lineup to Android Pie Oreo. The list was posted on its Samsung Members app. Apart from that, two other Samsung devices—the Galaxy Xcover4 and the Galaxy J5 Prime—will also apparently get the Oreo update based on some WiFi certification.
Below is a list of the devices getting the update along with expected month:
Device model | ETA of Oreo update |
Galaxy J7 Neo | December 2018 |
Galaxy Tab A 2017 | January 2019 |
Galaxy A9 Pro 2016 | January 2019 |
Galaxy C7 Pro | January 2019 |
Galaxy C9 Pro | January 2019 |
Galaxy J2 2018 | January 2019 |
Galaxy On5 2016 | January 2019 |
Galaxy On7 2016 | January 2019 |
Galaxy J7 2018 | January 2019 |
Galaxy J7 2017 | January 2019 |
Galaxy J7 Max | February 2019 |
Galaxy J7 2016 | March 2019 |
It is worth noting, however, that this timeline is not final, and Samsung may halt these updates if bugs or other issues are discovered in any rollout. The good part about this announcement is that some of these devices will receive two major OS updates: from Marshmallow to Nougat and from Nougat to Oreo.
However, given how Android Pie is already out, would it not make sense to start working on a Pie update instead, Samsung?
