Microsoft’s phone-to-Windows app is now available for Android

Microsoft’s “Your Phone” app, which, as of right now, only lets you access your Android phone’s recent photos, was in testing for Windows Insiders since last month, but starting today, it’s now available to everyone running Windows 10 (April 2018 update) and Android 7.0 (Nougat) or up.

The app aims to mirror your phone’s content to a PC, but currently only supports Android devices and accessing photos. However, The Verge notes that Microsoft plans to add text message sync and notification support at some point in the future. Microsoft has also promised iPhone support, but as of right now, there hasn’t been any news on that.

I personally tried out the app, but it needs much more to be a viable “continuum” solution and compete with what Apple offers with macOS and iOS. It works, and it certainly does what is advertised, which is the ability to view photos from your phone on your PC; however, I’d really like the ability for file transfer—both ways. Meaning, I want to be able to send photos, documents, and other files not only from my phone to my PC but also send things from my PC to my phone. Microsoft really has a lot of potential here, so hopefully, they can deliver.

Anyhow, if you want to try out the app yourself, you can download it from the Microsoft Store. In addition, you’ll also need the “Microsoft Apps” app on your phone.
