Airtel customers in India can now use the Google Assistant to see their data usage, outstanding bills, and more

Bharti Airtel (Airtel India) announced that all their customers, prepaid and postpaid, can now ask the Google Assistant questions related to their data usage, account balance, etc. It’s currently only available in English with support for regional languages rolling out later.

To use it, you first need to link your Airtel account with Google. To do that, first tell the Google Assistant “Talk to Airtel, “Ask Airtel,” or “Get Airtel.” After that, you’ll have to tell it “link my Airtel account” and you’ll be redirected to Airtel’s site where you’ll have to enter your mobile number, accept their terms and conditions, and enter an OTP.

After you’re done with that, simply tell the Google Assistant “Talk to Airtel,” Ask Airtel,” or “Get Airtel” like before. Then, you can ask it various questions.

Prepaid users can ask questions including, but not limited to:

  • What is my data balance?
  • What is my account balance?
  • Recharge

Postpaid users can ask questions including, but not limited to:

  • What is my current bill?
  • Why is my bill so high?
  • Bill summary
  • Pay bill
  • What is my current data usage?

It’s pretty cool that you can use the Google Assistant to ask such questions. However, at the time of writing, most of the features are half-baked or are coming soon. When I asked the Assistant about my data balance, it told me that the feature is coming soon. When I asked the Assistant to recharge, it simply redirected me to the Airtel website which I could’ve done without it.
