OnePlus 6T: Everything you need to know

The OnePlus 6T, after lots of leaks, rumors, and teasers, is now available. It does come with a price increase as usual, but starting at $549, it’s still a great choice. It’s been updated with an in-display fingerprint scanner, teardrop notch, and a battery bump to 3700 mAh. Quite an upgrade from the OnePlus 6.

In-display fingerprint scanner

Gone is the old physical fingerprint scanner on the back. It’s now under the display. It takes almost double the time than before—0.34 seconds—to unlock, however. The OnePlus 6’s took 0.2 seconds. It’s confined to a small region in the lower half of the display.

Teardrop notch

The notch reduces in size and houses only the selfie camera. The speaker and sensors have been moved to the top and the notification LED is gone. Apart from that, it still retains the original glass design of the OnePlus 6, with Gorilla Glass 6 this time around. Its screen-to-body ratio’s bumped up to 86% because of the teardrop notch and slightly smaller bottom bezel.

Say goodbye to the headphone jack

While the phone is a massive upgrade from the OnePlus 6, it’s taking a step forward or backward too, depending on who you ask. Like OnePlus announced earlier, the headphone jack is gone. OnePlus said that they needed room for the in-display fingerprint scanner and battery bump, but it’s still quite a shame for a company that’s labeled as an enthusiast phone maker.

Similarities to the OnePlus 6

The internals are quite similar to the OnePlus 6. The display is a 6.41-inch AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution (2340×1080 pixels) that goes up to 600 nits. The camera hardware is the same as the OnePlus 6, but this time OnePlus is focusing on low-light pictures. They’re calling it “NightScape.” It’s coming to the OnePlus 6 too.

Other

  • The phone will finally support Verizon.
  • As rumored earlier, OnePlus has partnered with T-Mobile and will sell the phone at over 5600 T-Mobile stores starting November 1.
  • The only change internally is a battery bump from 3300 mAh on the OnePlus 6 to 3700 mAh.
  • The phone will ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box.
  • OnePlus has talked a lot about transitioning to 5G, but the 6T will not support it.
  • Storage will come in 128GB and 256GB, skipping 64GB, with no microSD card storage expandability.

Price

It’ll be sold in two variants: mirror black and midnight black. A price bump after every new release of a OnePlus flagship is inevitable, and this time’s no different. It’ll start at:

  • $549/ ₹37,999/£499  for 128GB storage, 6GB RAM
  • $579/ ₹41,999/£529 for 128GB storage, 8GB RAM
  • $629/ ₹45,999/£579 for 256GB storage, 8GB RAM

Open sales start November 1 at 9:00 AM EST in the US, November 1 at 12:00 midnight IST in India, and November 6 at 10:00 AM CET in Europe.
