Google is rolling out spam protection in Messages

Google is rolling out spam protection in Messages. Messages can now detect suspected spam and let you block and report spammers. The change seems to be a server-side rollout, and not everyone’s getting it right now.

In the Advanced section of the settings menu, you’ll find a “Spam protection” option which will allow you to manually toggle the feature on or off. It’s going to be on by default after you receive it. If you see a suspected spam warning in Messages, you can let Google know if it’s spam or not by tapping “Report spam” or “Report not spam.”

Privacy

If you enable spam protection, Google temporarily stores the phone numbers of people sending and receiving messages with you and the times they messaged with you but does not store your phone number or the content of these messages. If you’re concerned about privacy, you can turn it off in settings.
