Google Duo is testing group video calls and low light mode

Any video calling app is incomplete without the support for group calls. Since the release of Duo, this was one of the most requested features, and according to the leaks uncovered by Android Police, it might be coming soon to Duo as well.

With Duo, you will soon be able to create a group of up to seven people and place a group video call.

If you tap on the group name in the bottom right, it will bring up the list of members in the group. Once you create a group, they will appear on the top of your contacts list. However, you can’t add people during the group call yet. You’ll need to modify the group and call again.

Duo also seems to be testing a low light mode, where the video that is sent to people in the video call is processed differently. This might be rendered differently server side to make it look brighter to the receiver.

At this point, these features seemed to be in a limited beta test and should be rolling out to users widely once testing is done. There is no word on when these will go live, but we will keep you posted if we spot any more changes to these features.
