Google Duplex is rolling out to non-Pixel phones in the US

Google announced Duplex back at I/O 2018. It enables the Google Assistant to call businesses and make reservations or appointments for you. In March, it started widely rolling out to only the Pixel phones and turned out to be pretty reliable too. Now, according to a report from XDA-Developers, Google Duplex is rolling out for iPhones (with the Google Assistant app) and most Android phones in the US.

The Google Assistant normally makes reservations for restaurants through OpenTable. When Max Weinbach, a writer at XDA-Developers, tried to make a reservation with his Galaxy S10+ for a restaurant that didn’t support OpenTable, it asked for the party size, date, and time and said that it’ll call the restaurant on its own.

Once it asked for the details, it said to wait for 15 minutes and that he would get a notification confirming the reservation. In a little less than six minutes, his reservation was confirmed.

Personally, I really like the move. Google keeping products like Duplex and Call Screening exclusive to the Pixel lineup is something I’ve always disliked, being a non-Pixel user myself. Now that Duplex is available for non-Pixel phones, maybe Call Screening is coming soon too?
