Google Chrome v71 will block abusive ads entirely

Advertising in general on the internet has degraded in the last few years, with malware and scam-ridden popups on websites becoming a major issue. With many browsers adding AdBlock, Google Chrome is one of the late entrants in the ad-blocking enabled browsers. Starting with Chrome 71, which is expected to roll out to stable in December, Google will block all ads it deems “abusive” in nature.

How would an ad be abusive? Unlike other web browsers which do a blanket ban on ads, Google has given webmasters a chance to check whether their ads are offensive or not. Webmasters can go into the Abusive Experiences Report, located in the Google Search Report, and select their website to check what Google thinks of the ads on their website. If you are not compliant, you have to fix it within 30 days; failing to do so can lead to Chrome blocking ads entirely on your website.

Abusive ads are a real problem, and many users who don’t know better fall to the obvious scams that are run on some of these pages. Being in a dominant position, Google could help out a lot of potential victims.
