May update for Pixel phones now out

The first Monday of May has arrived, and in an orderly fashion, Google’s monthly security updates are here. As always, just head to Settings > System > Advanced > System update to get the OTA.

The new build numbers for devices on the May update are as follows:

  • Pixel 3 and 3 XL: PQ3A.190505.002
  • Pixel 2 and 2 XL: PQ3A.190505.001
  • Pixel and Pixel XL: PQ3A.190505.001
  • Pixel C: OPM8.190505.001

Somewhat interestingly, all the build numbers for Pixel phones jump from PQ2A to PQ3A. Also, if you’re running the Android Q Beta on your device like I am, you will not receive this update. Presumably, the May patch will come with Beta 3 with tomorrow’s Google I/O 2019 event.

Essential is also already rolling out the May update on build PQ1A.190105.058. This update also brings a “Bluetooth fix for audio routing” and a “stability fix to improve shutdown responsiveness” on the PH-1.

No Pixel-specific functional patches were listed, but the update does contain “many functional updates and improvements to various parts” of the system.
