Google Maps will now display your phone’s battery level when sharing your location

If you use your phone for navigation, chances are good that you rely on Google Maps for this purpose. No matter what app you use, your phone will lose a lot of its battery while providing you with turn-by-turn directions or sharing your live location with your friends or family. And if a charger is not around, your phone could eventually run out of juice. Inevitably, you can no longer share your live location with your loved ones, which can leave them quite worried about you.

Fortunately, an imminent update to Google Maps will probably make things a little less worrying for your family and friends while en route. When you share your live location, your phone’s battery level will also be shared, as well as your phone’s charging status. Such a subtle change can make things a lot less worrisome for your fiancée as you make it to your date if your phone ran out of battery. It also means that you can’t lie anymore about not picking up because your battery was low. So you might want to reconsider who you will share your live location with after this update.

Like any update to any of Google’s apps, it might take a couple of days before Google Maps gets updated on your phone. So you might want to hold on for a while before testing it out.
