September 2018 Android distribution numbers posted, still no Pie in sight

Google releases Android distribution numbers every month for developers to help them prioritize their efforts in supporting different devices. The month’s nearly over, so here are September’s distribution numbers:

As is the case, the data provided was collected from users who visited the Google Play Store over a 7-day period ending on September 28th. Any versions with less than 0.1% distribution are not shown.

If you didn’t notice, Android Pie, which was released well over a month ago to AOSP, is still missing. Android Oreo is still seeing substantial gains while everything else from Nougat and below is slowly decreasing, with the exception of Android 4.3, 4.0 and 2.3, all of which remain unchanged from last month.

Project Treble or not, the update process on Android sucks. The fact that last year’s Android 8.0 Oreo update is just starting to pick up steam and hit some devices is a clear testament to that.
