Spotify finally launches in India with multiple low-cost options

Finally, after all the wait, speculations, and rumors, Spotify has launched in India. Spotify’s late entry into the Indian market comes after competitors like Apple Music, Google Play Music, Amazon Prime Music, and even local streaming services like Saavan and Gaana which have been present for quite a while.

Spotify has launched with pretty competitive pricing in India. Spotify Premium costs 119 INR ($1.67) and there’s even a student plan that gives you a discount of up to 50% off. Moreover, if you don’t want a subscription, Spotify even has several one-time payment options:

  • 1 day: 13 INR ($0.18)
  • 7 days: 39 INR ($0.55)
  • 1 month: 129 INR ($1.81)
  • 3 months: 389 INR ($5.47)
  • 6 months: 719 INR ($10.11)
  • 1 year: 1189 INR ($16.71)

Unfortunately, there’s no news on a family plan option yet.

While Spotify hasn’t officially announced its launch in India, you can visit this page to sign-up for the 30-day free trial to Premium. However, Spotify’s launch in India could be a rough one. They are currently in a lawsuit with Warner Music Group over licensing rights in the country, and our very own Aryan Arora noted that some artists’ albums are entirely grayed out, notably Ed Sheeran’s “÷” album.
