Wear OS updated with improved notifications and Assistant and health updates

Today, Google updated Wear OS, its software for smartwatches. The new changes affect the design of Wear OS. You can now access your notifications more quickly, the Google Assistant now has a dedicated pane similar to the phone, and Google Fit data is just a swipe away.

Notifications are now easier to use

Now it gets even easier to access your notifications on your watch. You can now swipe up to see all your notifications at once. If you want to interact with a notification, you can tap to select a smart reply. You can swipe down on your watch to get quicker access to handy features and shortcuts like Google Pay or Find my phone.

Deeper Google Assistant integration

Google has updated it’s assistant app to provide smart suggestions based on things such as your location, weather and time. For example, if you are in a hotel it can show relevant results related to that. It can detect if you have a flight due and show you updates about that if you are on the way. If it is going to rain, the assistant will now remind you to carry your umbrella if you are heading out.

Health updates

Last week, Google Fit got a set of updates which added Heart Points and Move Minutes, aiming to help you become more active in life. These updates are now also available on your smart watch. You can now simply swipe left to start a workout or see how you are tracking toward your goals.

These updates should be rolling out over the course of this month to most watches that got the 2.0 update.  However, the following watches won’t be getting this update:

  • LG G Watch
  • Samsung Gear Live
  • Moto 360 (2014)
  • Sony Smartwatch 3
  • Asus ZenWatch (v1)
