Ever wanted to wake up on one of your favorite upbeat tunes on Spotify instead of the usual ringtones you get to choose from when setting your alarm? Well, Google might have just got the perfect solution for you. Google’s Clock app has been updated with Spotify integration, allowing users to select their favorite tune directly from their favorite streaming service Spotify’s listings—and only Spotify. Play Music? YouTube Music? Nah. Just Google things.

Android Go finally gets turn-by-turn navigation

One of the fairly recent revelations of Google to improve the experience on low-end hardware is the introduction of Android Go: a trimmed down, no-frills version of Android specifically tailored to phones with limited hardware capabilities. Basically, nearly all of Google’s preinstalled apps such as YouTube and Maps are replaced with lighter editions that are much less resource intensive. On the other hand, these apps bear fewer functionalities and indeed less joyful animations in order to be lighter on the system.

Google bans apps whose sole aim is to serve ads, crypto-miners, and more

Earlier this week we had talked about how fake VPN apps which only serve ads were filling up the Play Store. We are glad to see that Google is taking some cognizance of this widespread issue, taking cheating developers to task. Google also banned cryptocurrency miners, which utilize the phone’s CPU/GPU to mine cryptocurrencies.

Honor Face Tracking is allegedly causing battery drain for some users

Huawei has cleverly implemented a feature called Face Tracking. In short, the phone will keep tracking your face to ensure the phone doesn’t turn off the screen or even dim it as long as you (or any other user) are looking at it. Basically, if it detects a face looking at the phone, the screen remains bright. So if you are reading something like an e-book or a lengthy article, the screen will be lit the whole time overriding the configured screen timeout. Pretty cool. But, it turns out that it might drain more juice than desired under certain conditions.
